United Methodist Women was founded 150 years ago and is a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

United Methodist Women (UMW) is specifically charged to “support ministry with and advocate for the oppressed and dispossessed with special attention to the needs of women, children and youth (The Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church, 2012, par. 1319).

Below are some of the areas of focus through which United Methodist Women members engage in God’s mission.

  • Spiritual Growth
  • Transformative education
  • Service and advocacy
  • Leadership development
  • Organizing for growth
  • Climate change
  • Domestic violence
  • Human trafficking
  • Immigration and global migration.

At Fort Hill United Methodist Church, there are three UMW subgroups, or circles, each with its own area of focus, unique projects, and opportunities for spiritual growth.  A typical circle meeting includes prayer, updates on project progress and fellowship.
