SHORT BIBLE STUDY: Fruits of the Spirit
What are the Fruits of the Spirit in the Bible? Galatians 5:22-23 lists the fruits of the spirit as the following:
- Love
- Joy
- Peace
- Patience
- Kindness
- Generosity
- Faithfulness
- Gentleness
- Self-control
The fruit of the spirit is evidence of life that has been lived through faith in Jesus. Like fruit that is ripened on a vine or a tree, the fruits of the spirit are ripened on the lives of those whose lives are connected to Jesus. Like fruit that gives nourishment to live, the fruits of the spirit give nourishment to the life of Disciples of Jesus.
John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist movement, taught that you know Christians by the way the fruit of the spirit is evident in their lives. The Wesley Study Bible offers this reflection on the Fruit of the Spirit, “the fruits of the spirit are best demonstrated in the quality of our relationships.” Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control – the Fruits of the Spirit. May God bless you as God’s word becomes a lamp unto your feet and the fruit of the spirit a part of your life.
