MUSIC MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES
The Fort Hill UMC music ministry is led by Director of Music, Jacob Dishman. Our ministry focus is to enrich the worship experience through the presentation of meaningful, scripture-based music offerings of a variety of different styles. Visit our Past Services page to see the worship music included in the weekly services.
Sanctuary Church Choir
Our 25-voice church choir leads the service every Sunday with sacred worship songs and music, year-round. They present a major choral work during Advent and Holy Week and occasionally sing for retirement communities and nursing home facilities. The church choir is currently made up of adults, however, youth are encouraged to join. The sanctuary choir rehearses Thursday nights at 6:45 pm.
Celebration Handbell Ringers
Our group of twelve ‘English Handbell’ musicians helps to facilitate worship with music for the Sunday Service about once a month. They also enjoy playing in the community in retirement communities, cancer centers, and occasionally, Christmas Parades. The Celebration Ringers attend handbell music festivals, workshops, and periodically present light-hearted musical programs such as “At the Movies” (April 2018.) These dedicated musicians ring intermediate level music (ability to read music necessary) and the handbell choir rehearses Wednesdays at 7 pm.
Instrumental Ensemble
Retrieve your brass, woodwind or string instrument from the attic, dust it off and come join our instrumental ensemble. Our Instrumental Ensemble provides worship songs and music for the Sunday Service once a month. All ages are invited to participate. We practice Sunday morning prior to the Worship Service around 9:00 am.
Other Ensembles
You don’t have to be in the church choir to participate in services. Do you play guitar? Do you sing? Do you play the banjo, mandolin, kazoo, accordion, tuba, lute, etc.? Please contact Jacob about forming a new ensemble! We are looking to provide musical opportunities for musicians with a wide range of styles and levels of experience; anything from a bluegrass jam group, to solo worship-leading opportunities on Sunday mornings, and everything in between. Worship, as well as church events, will be greatly enhanced by your participation!
Handbells 101
We offer a beginning level introduction to handbell music for anyone curious or interested in learning how to ring. Our short-term class is offered about once a year. Handbell choir music reading experience is helpful, but not necessary.
